Character Profile…Jonathan
By now, readers will know who Jonathan is. For those who are new to the series, Jonathan is the enigmatic man Hannah met in Deadly Vows: Echoes of College Crimes. He plays a significant role in both the second and third books. Jonathan is a young private investigator who aided Hannah during her recovery after the brutal attack she suffered in Deadly Vows. In this third installment of the Hannah Walker Mystery Series, Jonathan and Hannah are preparing for their upcoming nuptials in Paris. But after Rafael is attacked and their investigations take them to Las Vegas, Jonathan begins to behave strangely and starts treating Hannah harshly.
Unknown to Hannah, he harbors a dangerous secret—if she were to discover it, it could cost her life, a risk he cannot afford to take. What Jonathan does not realize is that Hannah has been plagued by recurring dreams in which they never make it down the aisle to say “I do.”
Will Jonathan and Hannah survive these new strings of killings and obsessions? Or will one of them meet their demise? The answers lie in Paris Noir: Deadly Obsession.
When creating the character of Jonathan, I wanted him to contrast with Daniel, the man Hannah fell in love with in Deadly College Murders. Daniel had been more of a crush for Hannah, but when she met Jonathan, everything shifted. His temperament and outlook are markedly different from Daniel’s. In Deadly Vows, Hannah recognizes how deeply Daniel wants to be with her, yet she comes to feel as if he has become a darker, almost cruel version of himself. With Jonathan, however, she experiences a sense of safety and steadiness. He is the one who patiently helps her heal and opens her eyes to how unfairly she treated Rafael. Daniel represents darkness in Hannah’s life while Jonathan represents light.
